I had a CT-Coronary Angiogram this week and knew I needed something big to distract me the days leading up to it and the days that followed while waiting for results. I love living perched on a hill and looking out at the woods behind our house but realized soon after we moved here that all the creatures of the forest gobble up just about anything we tried to grow. I’ve long dreamed of a little garden and the day before my procedure created one with some old picket fence, brackets, and a hinge. My son and husband did the carpentry and that night before bed I did a little happy dance inside the garden by the light of the moon. After completing the test, returning home, and resting the first thing I did was plant a border of marigolds. Yesterday while waiting for the phone to ring I visited a small local farm and picked up a pile of flowerpots, some soil, and lettuce seedlings and spent the afternoon in the sunshine. My fingers were caked in soil when the doctor called with very good news. There’s something incredibly therapeutic about digging in the dirt, planting something, and helping it grow. It requires patience, persistence, and a belief in the future.
