“I need to laugh, and when the sun is out
I’ve got something I can laugh about
I feel good, in a special way
I’m in love and it’s a sunny day”
The Beatles
Woke up so happy to see another sunny day, put on a T-shirt that says good day sunshine, my marigold shoes and after tending the garden ventured out to Elizabeth D. Kay Environmental Center in Chester. One of the most tranquil parks in Morris County, over 200 acres with 80 acres of meadows, several different trails that loop the property including a portion of Patriot’s Path and Bamboo Brook Trail. Today I wasn’t sure which way I’d go but followed the yellow trail through the woods and around a meadow. Soon after making my way into the woods I turned a corner and the path was lined with sunny flowers, clearly where I was meant to be. It was peaceful, with sunbeams streaming through the trees and my eyes were drawn to bright pops of yellow flowers along the way. If you go trail maps are available in the parking lot and online. There are no benches along the way but the main trails are gentle and it’s a really special place to explore. Most of the paths are flat with few roots or obstructions making it fairly accessible for most. It’s especially popular with birdwatchers and birdhouses seem to attract many different species. Trails lead to several other local attractions if you’re looking to make a day of it.
