Pershing Park, Jersey City

This afternoon we met up with family for an hour before meeting up with friends for a socially distanced surprise party. It’s a big park, 13.5 acres in the Heights section of Jersey City. The upper level of the park has several memorials set up, statues, plaques, and a walkway through mature trees with some beautiful landscaping- today the flowers resembled Alice in Wonderland, bright and bold. There’s a dramatic stone archway at the entrance. The lower level is a flat paved track, today it was a popular spot for walking, dog-walking, running, roller skating, bicycling, tricycling, and kite flying. The playground, tennis court, and baseball field are currently closed but those both look very well maintained. There are some gorgeous murals in town and some can be seen as you stroll. There’s some historical technicolor mosaic work as well as an art installation that looks like totem poles as you approach but all of the ceramic tiles represent people and activities that take place in the park. Parking can be a challenge due to limited street parking.
