Walk with me

Mother’s Day hike.

Hedden Circular Trail enjoying the view

Hedden Park is so big that it has many separate entrances. When I asked the family to join me for a walk there today I envisioned leisurely strolling on the paved and cleared path that circles the pond and makes its way along streams through the woods. Our son Jack joined me with more of the family soon to follow. I was so eager to begin I turned into a lot next to a baseball field where he played when he was little. We took the Hedden Circular Trail (White) and met up with the family on the Indian Falls Trail (Green) This was a much more strenuous hike than I planned for, steep and rocky, criss-crossed with roots, but with my walking stick, and the kids patiently offering their hand to help me through some of the more challenging sections we made it from one end of the park to the other. Loved watching them bound like gazelles down steep inclines across the stream to watch the water rush by, and perch like mountain goats on rock formations looking out from up above, but most of all loved watching them slow their pace as I slowed mine and offer their hands without judgement to keep me safe and cheer me on when I braved it on my own much like I did when they were little.
